harumph: Cartoon of a Weeping Angel from Doctor Who with the caption "Not the comfy chair!" (people :: izzard :: quoi?)

Because I don't want to spam facebook/twitter/what-have-you, I'm compiling a list o' links here of all the awesome things I've stumbled upon over the last few days. Because you NEED TO KNOW.

Kick-Ass, Made of Win People

Amusing &/Or Nifty Time Wasters
  • Adorable sleeping puppies to give you a happy when you has a grumpy/sad/&c. If you're more of a kitteh person, you weren't forgotten.
  • If you (like me) wound up watching the VMAs against your better judgment on Sunday night & thus know about Kanye being a douche and interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech, I bring you imaletyoufinish.com. When you combine unrelated images with Kanye's ego, hilarity ensues! (Well, most of the time)
  • The 50 States Project, which assigns a particular theme (landscape, residence, people, etc.) and 1 photographer from each of the 50 US states submits a photo "representing," as it were, their state. Some of them are really awesome, and some are lame. I must admit my current fave is from Oklahoma (because the buffalo American Bison is looking at the jackrabbit as if to say "... quoi?")

Earlier this week the Smart Bitches held a contest for Twilight-izing the covers of any romance (or really any book), as inspired by the new covers for Wuthering Heights, Pride & Prejudice, and Romeo & Juliet. The actual post, however, seems to have disappeared and I cannot find it, nor do I know why it was taken down because it was HILARIOUS. I'm emailing/tweeting Sarah to find out what the deal is, but in the meantime you can get the general idea by checking out these Twilight-ized covers a cool cat posted in sparklefield.

EDITED TO ADD: Aaaaaand the entry is live again! Check out the Twilight-ized book covers in all their majestic glory. I have to say I voted for the dictionary, too, although it might have been more apropos to use a thesaurus. Just sayin'. :D Goodnight Moon is definitely a close second (if only because I can only ever hear it in my mind with Christopher Walken reading it, lol).

Waitwaitwait...I get the joke ones, but are they really making new covers for classic books and adding a Twilight twist? If so, I am going to puke. Like 100 times. Even Robert Pattinson agrees. Just look at my icon. Haha.

They certainly are, unfortunately. P&P "comes out" on October 6. :-/ Someone mentioned that the one for R&J is pretty similar to a cover of a previous edition, so it's not such a HUGE transition, but... GAH. If Smeyer wants to compare Edward to Heathcliff, fine. They're both assholes and NOT romantic heroes (nobody seems to realize that WH is NOT a romance, but then again, people seem to think that Twilight IS, sooo...). But Pride & Prejudice? NO. Just... NO. It makes me sad, even if it means more people may start reading the classics and realize what garbage Twilight is. I remember not being very pleased when they started making Chick Lit-ish covers for Austen's books, but this just seems like it's a new level of baseness. In conclusion: DO NOT WANT. Robert has the right idea.

I've never been much into Shakespeare, so if they want to Twilight-ize it, go ahead. But I'm with you on Pride and Prejudice. There can be no comparisons made between Edward and Mr. Darcy. Or between obnoxious Bella and Elizabeth, because I'm sorry, Bella is not a strong woman, no matter what dear old Stephanie wants her fans to think. PUKE.

Oooh, you've seen the rocking French bulldog puppy, yeah? I'm nuts about adorably puppy vids lately. Either Jezebel or BoinBoing had bulldog puppies "fighting" yesterday. Esplode from cute.

I don't think I've seen it, actually. But I heart puppies, so I'd be glad to find it out! Except it would make me WANT a puppy, and I can't have a puppy right now, and that sucks. :( Anyway, yay puppies!

I love SBTB. They're so funny.

And that new cover for P&P makes me want to vomit.

I KNOW, right? Wuthering Heights and Romeo & Juliet don't bother me as much because I'm not as much a fan of them (because neither are the romances people seem to think they are, but that's a rant for another day), but P&P holds a special place in my heart. And now Austen is probably rolling in her grave at being part of a Twitard-targeted marketing campaign. >:|

On the plus side, though, the Smart Bitches link is back up!

Wow. I had no idea Eddie Izzard was so awesome in addition to his whole dressing in drag and doing comedy bit.
